-Visa Category: Subclass 143 – Contributory Parent Visa (Permanent)
-Type: Permanent visa, allowing the holder to live in Australia indefinitely with full permanent resident rights

2. Rights and Benefits
Holders of the Subclass 143 visa are entitled to:
-Live in Australia permanently
-Work and study in Australia without restrictions
-Access Medicare, Australia’s public health care system
-Travel to and from Australia freely during the initial 5-year travel facility
-Apply for Australian citizenship once residency requirements are met
-Include a spouse or de facto partner in the application, if eligible
3. Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet several criteria, including but not limited to:
Requirement | Details |
Sponsorship | The sponsor is usually the applicant’s child, who must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen |
Balance of Family Test | At least half of the applicant’s children must be living permanently in Australia, or the number of children living in Australia must be greater than in any other single country |
Health & Character Requirements | Applicants must pass health examinations and provide police clearances |
Assurance of Support (AoS) | The sponsor or an approved assurer must provide financial assurance to ensure the applicant does not rely on government welfare |
Visa Application Charges | This is a contributory parent visa, requiring a significant fee paid in two instalments (first at application, second before grant) |
