-Type: A permanent residence visa that allows skilled workers nominated by an eligible regional employer to live and work in regional Australia on a long-term basis.
-Purpose: Designed to address skill shortages in regional areas by enabling employers to sponsor qualified overseas workers for permanent positions.
-Visa Benefits: Once granted, holders can live, work, and study in regional Australia indefinitely.

 

2. Visa Streams

Subclass 187 consists of several application streams, each suitable for different applicant backgrounds:
a. Temporary Residence Transition
b. Direct Entry Stream
c. Labour Agreement Stream
 

 


3. Rights, Benefits & Obligations

Rights & Benefits:

-Permanent residence with no time limit on stay.

-Ability to live, work, and study in regional Australia.

-Eligible to include spouse and dependent children in the application.

-Access to Medicare (if eligible).

-Multiple-travel facility: freedom to enter and leave Australia for the validity period of the travel facility(typically 5 years).

Obligations / Restrictions:

-Must comply with regional employment obligations (e.g., work for the nominating employer in the regional area for at least 2 years).

-Failure to meet these obligations may lead to visa cancellation.

-Must commence work with the nominating employer within specified timeframes after visa grant.

-Changes in employment, position, employer ownership, or residential address may need to be reported to the Department and may trigger reassessment.
